ARMOURJOINT BRIDGEJOINT COMPOUND (BJC)

 

USES

 

A polymer modified bituminous bridgejoint binder which is mixed with graded aggregate to

form an asphaltic plug joint in asphalt and concrete carriageways.

 

DESCRIPTION

 

The BJC system can accommodate a movement range of ± 25mm in a standard APJ

installation of 500mm width.  They are resistant to flow at surface temperatures of 50°C and

meet the Local Authority Specifications for Bridgejoint Installations.

Minimum Application Temperature + 5°C

Product Pouring Temperature 170 ± 10°C

Maximum Safe Heating Temperature 190°C

Penetration Value @ 25°C 30 ± 5 dmm

Flow resistance @ 60°C/5 hrs < 5mm

Softening Point R&B°C 85 ± 95°C

Extension Test @ 3.2mm/per hr 50% @ 2°C

 

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE:

 

Good resistance to: Dilute acids & alkalies

 

Not resistant to: Petroleum Solvents

                        Mineral Oils

                        Vegetable Oils & Greases

                                                                                              

STORAGE:                            Store in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight.

 

PACKAGING Silicone or Poly-silicone sacks - 20kgs Net.

 

SAFE HANDLING PRECAUTIONS:

 

·        Do not exceed the maximum safe heating temperature.

 

·        Do not allow the hot material to come into contact with

                              water as the product will react violently.

 

·        Always wear the recommended protective clothing.

COMPOSITION

 

A polymer modified bitumen containing graded extender with adhesion agents.

 

ACUTE HEALTH HAZARDS & ADVICE:

 

Bituminous products present no acute health hazard at ambient temperature.  However, as these materials are normally handled at elevated temperatures when their physical state changes to a liquid, the bitumens present in these products give of fumes which are undesirable to inhale as very small quantities of HYDROGEN SULPHIDE may be present in the bitumen.

                       

RECOMMENDED PROTECTIVE CLOTHING    

 

Overalls, Goggles/Visor, Gloves and Closed Safety Boots

                       

TRANSPORTATION                     Not classified as dangerous for transportation.
